Day 26- A picture of Somewhere I've gone to

Hey my loves,
Sorry I didn't post this yesterday, I had a hectic day. It was my nephew's 6th Birthday and I had to do a lot of things like bake his cupcakes and wrap his gifts last minute. In the afternoon my brother brought him over so we could sing Happy Birthday to him and so he could open some of his presents. Saturday he's gonna have his real birthday party, but what fun is a birthday if you can't open presents.

Anyways, this post is day 26 and it asks for a photo of somewhere I've been, well to be honest, I haven't been many places...I know, I know how lame. I went to Louisiana once when I was little and I've visited Mexico often, since my parents were born there. Unfortunately, with all the stuff going on with the drug cartels and stuff, it's pretty tough to travel to Mexico these days, so we haven't gone in a few years.

One of the last times I went was I believe back around Thanksgiving of '07, before things got really bad over there. On our way back, I snapped this picture of the Rio Grande River...

This is the river that seperates The U.S. (Texas) from Mexico.
I took this picture from the car, while waiting to crossover, we were there for like 3 hours waiting. The line was super long. That was back then and when, tons of people used to go to Mexico for the holidays. Ah the good old days. To be honest, I can't wait to go back, I miss my family, seeing where my parents grew up and hanging out over there on vacations. I remember going over there all the time when I was younger. I can't wait for this whole ordeal with the drug cartels to be over, if it ever is. Mexico, atleast the part where I'm from, is not the same today as it was back 4 yrs. ago when I took this picture. It truly makes me sad. :(

So yeah, I hope you enjoyed this quick post.

Where have you traveled?
Let me know down below

Oh my goodness, that's a real picture you took? How beautiful! It looks like it could be on a postcard or something :)

I'm sorry that you feel Mexico hasn't been the same since you last visited, and I do hope things get better soon.

I am SO behind on this challenge. I've missed like five days. I don't think I wanna do it anymore. I'll do Day 30 and that's it lol

Thanks for sharing, love.

@Huda- I don't blame you love for wanting to quit. I've wanted to quit a couple times, but I'm almost done, so I might as well finish it off. I like the feeling of accomplishment lol. As far as the picture, yes maam, I sure did take it. We were practically parked in traffic to crossover and I thought it looked beautiful so I snapped it. Thanks for the well wishes, hopefully one day, I'll be able to safely go back to visit Mexico. :)

Great post, because I can relate! LOL. I haven't been to Mexico in ages. I do remember seeing the Rio Grande River and being in awe at it as we crossed over. (I'm from the Rio Grande Valley so we're practically in Mexico LOL.) I thought about how so many people risks their lives crossing that river to try and have a better life in the U.S. We are so lucky to be here. Even though we blame our presidents and government for everything, I'd still rather be here than anywhere else. :) XXOO, chica :)

Aww this post kinda made me a little sad. Where are your parents from? I lived in Guadalajara and puerto Vallarta. Nothing bad was going on there, lucky for me.

@Seema- Thanks!

@Ms. Prettyful Girl- You are so right my love. We are lucky. I couldn't imagine living in Mexico and having to go through all of the trauma that my little cousins go through. Not being able to leave your house sometimes, hearing gunshots and grenades, probably seeing dead bodies, being young and not being able to enjoy it. It's just crazy right now over there. I thank God everyday for living here even if there's a stupid recession and sometimes our government doesn't do the best decisions. We still live in an amazing country, it could be so much worse.

@LaSophia- You're so lucky. My parents are from Tamaulipas, right smack down on the border where the drug cartels are fighting for their territory to smuggle drugs so it's not easy to go over there.

BBB: I couldn't agree more with your response to Ms. Prettyful Girl. I know exactly how you feel because that's what my family faces over in Lebanon sometimes. It gets crazy over there too. When my sister visited last year, she was traumatized. Nobody could leave their houses, and they'd wake up to gunshots and bombs all over the place. Scary! I'm thankful she and my mom came back safe!! I always consider myself lucky for being born here. Even with all our problems we face in America, it's absolutely NOTHING compared to what other countries go through. Count your blessings <3 <3 <3

@My BBB- I know girl, life's tough in other countries. Especially, in countries where they're at war whether it be with their own people/government or with other countries. I can't imagine what it must be like and I don't even want to. We're lucky that we were born and raised here. And definitely, people should count their blessing, I count my blessings everyday.

Oh Tamaulipas! One of my best friends is from Tampico, and he just moved to Guadalajara. He says they cant go out at night in Tampico cause its "narcolandia." sad. But he's funny about it too, he said the gym is the new anthro. Much love,

Sophia

@lasophia- Lol, "narcolandia" I'm glad he has a sense of humor about it. My cousin's husband is from Tampico. xoxo =>
